Ongoing Children's Justice Trainings

The following two trainings, Family Violence Assessment in Child Protective Services and Substance Abuse Assessment, has classes offered several times each year. Classes are FREE! Mileage and per diem are paid to the trainee for lodging/meals subject to state government regulations. Classes are small-from 25 to 40 professionals. Trainings are targeted to DHR Child Protective Services, Law Enforcement, and Family Violence. Continuing Education contact hours are awarded for social workers.

  • Family Violence Assessment in Child Protective Services teaches about the relationship between domestic violence and child abuse; its impact and understanding victim behaviors; worker safety; identification, screening and decision making; perpetrator lethality; supportive approaches and more. This is a 2 day class.
  • Substance Abuse Assessment teaches about the need for continual assessment for substance use and its effects on child safety and parental capacities; identification, assessment and decision-making regarding substance use disorder; exploration of personal bias and the importance of the multidisciplinary approach to assess these complex family situations and more. This is a 2-day class.

Other trainings and conferences may be offered by Children’s Justice throughout the year. Information about these trainings and conferences will be disseminated through DHR and other multidisciplinary partners.
